I have always been an observer.  I notice the details that most people pass by.  My artwork captures moments or snap shots of detail that enthrall me.  I am particularly attracted to subject matter with reflective surface qualities.  Exploring the way light reacts to it's environment is a recurring theme in my work.  Intense observation is an integral part of my creative process.

I studied fine art at Humboldt State University.  The culture and environment of the Pacific Northwest inspired my series of beauty related or make-up themed artwork, beginning when few of my peers asked me why I wear make-up.  This question acted as a catalyst driving me to uncover my fresh skin and explore current cultural themes of beautification.  What began as a post-feminist reworking of ideas regarding beauty, culminated in a total embrace of myself, my femininity, and an ode to my favorite beauty tool: The Eyelash Curler.  The eyelash curler is an amazing invention.  This shiny, small tool has the ability to open up the most tired of eyes.  It is the first tool of beautification that I ever fell in love with.  I could go without make-up, but I would prefer to never go without my eyelash curler.  It is my hope, that the work in this series will challenge the viewer to re-see the eyelash curler and begin to examining culturally constructed ideas surrounding beautification and beauty tools.

Through working closely with eyelash curlers, my love for all that is shiny and reflective grew.  I am currently developing a series of classic car paintings.  Connecting with owners of vintage cars has made the art making process personal.  Interlacing personal connections and history with carefully arranged aesthetic elements and the play of light and surface texture drives my art making process.
